House sitter and pet sitter instructions

Leaving your home and pets with someone else is easier when everything they need is on one sheet. SitterNotes walks you through it: who to call, how to feed and medicate each pet, which plants need water, where the shut-off valves are and what day the bins go out.

Saved you some time? Leave a tip, entirely optional.

Enter your travel dates and SitterNotes builds a day-by-day checklist for the whole stay, with every feeding, walk, plant watering and trash night in its own box, ready to print and leave on the counter.

    How to write sitter instructions

Start with the dates you are away and the people who matter: your phone number while travelling, a local emergency contact who can get to the house quickly, and your vet plus the nearest 24-hour emergency vet. Then describe the house: the address for deliveries and emergencies, Wi-Fi, keys and locks, the heating setting, trash and recycling days, and where the water shut-off valve and breaker panel are. These two locations are the ones most people forget and the ones a sitter needs most when something goes wrong.

Pets go one per line with vertical bars between name, species, food and amount, feeding times, medication and notes. Plants take a name, how often to water and an amount. Anything else that happens every day, such as bringing in the mail or opening the blinds, goes in the daily routine, and house rules cover everything from shoes off to keeping the dog off the sofa.

    The day-by-day checklist

SitterNotes combines everything into a checklist with a column for each day of the trip. Each feeding time gets its own row, so a sitter can see at a glance whether the evening meal was given. Dogs get a daily walk, cats get litter scooping, every pet gets fresh water, plants appear only on their watering days, and trash and recycling appear on the evening before collection. The first fourteen days are printed; for longer trips print a second copy after a fortnight.

    Before you leave

Walk through the sheet with your sitter in person, show them the shut-offs, and share any alarm or door codes by message rather than on paper. SitterNotes lists anything important that is still missing above the preview.

    Private by design

SitterNotes has no accounts and no server. Your sheet is saved in local storage on this device only and never uploaded.

    Frequently asked questions

What should I leave for a house sitter?

Your contact number, a local emergency contact, the vet, Wi-Fi details, how the keys and heating work, trash days, where the water shut-off and breaker panel are, and full pet and plant care instructions.

How does the daily checklist work?

It lists every job for each day of your trip: feedings at each time, meds, walks, litter, plants on their watering days and the evening before each bin collection.

Should I put the alarm code on the sheet?

Better not. Share codes in person or by message, so they are not written down in the house.
